GENELCO - POWER SYSTEMS Ltd. is a company founded in 2011 and is the Authorized Distributor & Service Provider for GE Jenbacher GmbH & Co, Jenbach, Austria co-generation gas engines in the territory of Greece. Since then, the company has a dynamic presence in the field of combined production of electric power, heat and cooling (tri-generation) thus achieving to become a well-known and respected firm in this field.
GE Jenbacher brand means that we provide the customer with excellent quality and high efficiency cogeneration systems. GENELCO - POWER SYSTEMS Ltd. can undertake any installation in which biogas is produced (e.g. livestock or agricultural farms, municipal wastewater, greenhouses, landfills etc.), as much as facilities connected to the natural gas network, in order to install and provide technical support for the maintenance of the engines.
Our purpose is to offer clients solutions and energy efficiency projects using gas from renewable sources to reduce energy costs, maximize profitability and minimize the environmental footprint of the production process.
Company’s foundation in Greece
Until the company’s foundation in 2011, all GE Jenbacher gas engines sales in Greece were realized straight from Austria and General Electric had not any local presence in our country.
GE Jenbacher saw that potential investors in Greece would feel more comfortable with a local distributor, who would both sell the engines and undertake the responsibility of providing maintenance services. For this reason, GEJ decided to create a local representation in Athens, Greece and assigned this task to their most successful and well organized representative of GE Jenbacher in Southeast Europe, “Total Energy Business S.A.” (TEB).
TEB, which has its headquarters in Bucharest, Romania, having a great experience both on sales and especially on maintenance of GEJ engines, had everything needed to guarantee the successful undertake of the Greek market. In this context, Total Energy Business S.A. founded GENELCO Power Systems Ltd in Athens, Greece, whose is the major shareholder.
TEB has a successful presence in the market of cogeneration systems, with up to 34 Cogeneration Modules installed in Romania including one Containerized version, and a total installed power up to 94,11 MWe and 93,29 MWth.
As a subsidiary company of TEB in Greece, GENELCO has the full cover and support of the parent company. Consequently, beyond the important and direct support that GENELCO has from GE Jenbacher itself, it also has all the experience and infrastructure provided by TEB.
GENELCO - POWER SYSTEMS Ltd. has specialized in power production with cogeneration systems and has the qualified staff and the background knowledge to fully support a project from the level of case study to the installation and the operation of the plant, providing not only the technical-economical background needed to install a cogeneration unit, but also integrated solutions to enable this unit to operate seamlessly in the future.
A few words about co-generation
Cogeneration is the combined generation of electrical (or mechanical) power and heat from the same fuel source, such as biogas or natural gas. We should clarify here that the generated heat can be used for heating, warm water or steam production, as much as cooling and air conditioning. Cooling and air conditioning are achieved through absorption chillers that utilize steam or hot water.
During the operation of a conventional thermal power plant large amounts of heat are dissipated to the environment either through the refrigerant circuit (steam condensers, cooling towers, water and oil coolers of Diesel engines, etc.) or through the exhaust gases (gas turbines, Diesel engines, Otto engines, etc.). The major part of this heat can be recovered and used usefully. So while conventional power plants have an efficiency of 30-45%, the efficiency of cogeneration systems reaches 80-85%.
Cogeneration systems, in order to be economically viable, are applied in cases where there are simultaneous loads of electricity and heat (or cooling). They can be considered as integrated energy systems, meaning that they can cover all end user demands (electricity, warm water, steam, hοt air and cooling).
